“A.I. is the future” is a commonly heard phrase nowadays, but what kind of future do we all want? Dating apps have started to include generative A.I. features, with start-ups trying to base their brand on A.I. powered matching algorithms and established apps rushing to add in chatbots. Bondz’s team has made the decision to not use generative A.I. tools in-app or in the production pipeline.
One of the biggest criticisms against generative A.I. tools is how the generation works. Image generation produces imitations of artists’ work, often against the permission of said artists. Many large language models (LLMs) are trained on large sets of data from the internet and provide unreliable information. Despite general mistrust of A.I. usage, many companies have pushed for using A.I. in the workplace.
Bondz was made for communities to come together, many of which are centered around creativity and art. The Bondz team themselves have backgrounds in creative fields and have seen firsthand how A.I. has created a negative impact. The concerns of artistic plagiarism, misinformation, and environmental impact are not worth the usage of generative A.I. to the Bondz team.
Meeting new people isn’t easy, it involves willingness to be vulnerable and not putting up a facade. To encourage the usage of generative A.I. encourages the loss of individuality, authenticity and creativity. Dating apps should offer an experience where everyone can meet people who are authentically themselves, with no hindrances from generated content.
Bondz was created to bring together communities of like-minded people. To implement unneeded A.I. features would only inhibit the human connection Bondz wants to help foster.
